UPDATE:
Home construction has started at the Riverbed Ranch!
The Academy of Self-Reliance director, Philip Gleason, is seen here marking the boundaries of where to dig the foundation for a #homesteading shareholder of the Utah OSR Land Co-op.
The OSR Land Co-op is the first of five online-but-off-grid modern homesteading communities to be built in the Rocky Mountain West. The Academy of Self-Reliance assists in this "Operation Self-Reliance" project by providing training and information resources for any family that wants to achieve greater self-reliance, whether that is on their existing land, or, as a part of an OSR Land Co-op.
Utah's OSR Land Co-op is being built at the Riverbed Ranch on the border of Juab and Tooele Counties in West Central Utah. The Riverbed Ranch is nestled between Keg mountain and the Simpson mountains, and consists of 1,245 acres of land that has been farmed since the 1950s. The land came with 2,855 acre-feet of water rights.
Shareholders receive a proprietary occupancy agreement for 2 acres of land, 2 acre-feet of water rights, and agree to build an #offgrid, passive-solar home along with a barn or shop, a #greenhouse, a well, and a garden. The co-op members can sell their surplus produce through the co-op if they so choose.
For those interested, here are two videos explaining the origin and progress of "Operation Self-Reliance":
